usually there all adjustable if there metal. just try removing it from walls, and twisting it as if you were unscrewing it, and see if it gets longer gradually...else if it's wooden, not adjustable,...then go buy some cheap shower curtain rod holders, there thin plastic piece's with a rounded notch molded into them so the rod will stay in one place, they fasten right onto the wall or tile, whatever...for tile just use a small amount of multipurpose quick drying glue, or silicone or something like that, although silicone takes longer to dry, but others take a few hours...read the labels well...good luck

I'm reviving this thread from over 8 years ago. I was looking for a simple, temporary fix. One that didn't involve going to the store. My problem was with the friction that the rubber ends were causing, not enough.. they were looking worn. What I did was simply cut a square piece of duct tape, applied it to both ends of the rod securely, then cut the excess tape circularly around the end. This way there was no visible exposed tape, just a little circle on each end for additional friction. This friction was enough to prevent the shower rod for slipping. I put it in place, turned the rod a few times to make it a little tighter, pulled down a little from the center and it didn't budge. Good luck.

Take it off of the walls and while holding the far end with one hand, turn the end closest to you counter-clockwise; you should notice the bar get longer as you do this. This puts more spring pressure against the walls as it requires you to compress the spring further to get it in between the walls. Adjust as necessary.

I hope that was clear enough.

It's a tension rod. Increase the tension by turning one end to make it a tad bigger.

Good god, how do these people get through life?
