hi there look ive got irritable bowel syndrome and have had it for the last 3/4 years easily ,and this is something that is controlled by tablets and no more of that lovely spicey food that is around ,what is going on in youre tummy is that you have a lot of acid (which is made to get all our food digested )except that people like you and i have a tummy that likes to put more acid in than need be so that is why we can go from being constpated to not being able to get of the loo due to diarhea....great fun .....and yes you do get tummy cramps and this could be caused by what youre eating ,increase youre fibre intake fresh fruit /vegetables ,oats all the foods that are high in fiber are really good for us as it acts a bit like a sponge (well thats what ive found out ),curries, chillie, any thing spicey youre going to have major problems as this will get that acid valve going crazy so youre going to have bad indigestion and it will take a while to settle ,try and avoid fizzy juice ,as that isnt the best thing to put in youre tummy ,but having said all that this is one thing thatyou will find out is what to eat and when you can get away with the odd naughty food as i call them ,you will probably have been given some sort of medication ,and it might work if not go back to the doctor ,i had to try a few different kinds of tablets and go back and forth to get the right strength as everyones tummy with this disorder needs different levels of medication ,this is a condition that you will be able to live with and get on with a normal life ........hope this helps you and take care xx

Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be caused by a number of things such as stress which can mess up bowel habits. Some people have problems with just diarrhea (very loose stools), and others like myself have constipation (very hard stools) and yet others can have a combination of both.

A really good site where you can get even more information is: http://www.ibdcrohns.about.com

Also, one thing that can be helpful for easing IBS is a high fiber diet or taking special products that are out on the market if the dietary changes aren't enough. And drinking a lot of water depending on if you have the constipation problem or not can also help the bowel some.

I would recommend getting a consultation with a gastroenterologist (a doctor that treats diseases and disorders of the intestinal tract) because there are some medical conditions that can have symptoms that make others think it's IBS when it may not be.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, usually abbreviated to IBS, is a psychological condition, though to be induced by stress, without there being any anatomical bowel damage. It is thought that the nerves to the bowel produce spasm. This results in cramps, and both constipation and diarrhoea.

Few treatments are all that successful, however antispasmodics can reduce the cramps and amitriptylline can reduce some of the spasm. 50% of sufferers improve on a high fibre diet and 50% get worse. Psychotherapy also sometimes helps.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Try buying Buscopan from over the counter at the chemist. Very effective.

Bowel Syndrome could well be down to stress factors at work or home. You really need to get to the hospital and have it checked out now.
Also get rid of those hidden fears because they are like a rocking chair and go no where.

Take care

think iv got this as well. did they do any tests? if so can you give me some info iv gota go about it soon.

iv found that staying away from bread, alcohol and certain sweets really does help and reduces the cramps. drinking plenty of water helps a lot too.
