I know I am judgemental and shouldnt be but I have a problem with any parent who puts their child in daycare daily when they do not work whether it be voluntarily or to make money. I know several parents who put their kids in daycare and pay the outrageous costs just so they don't have to be with their kids. My EX SIL put my neice and nephew in daycare while she was always on vacation and it really upset me. Why do people have kids if they do not want to spend time with them outside of work or school. Its one thing if you are working, have one day that you run errands, do volunteer work but to pay someone to watch your kids while you are out shopping for yourself, at the beach or at home being lazy is horrible and I do not see why Kate nor any of the friends or famiy members couldnt be watching the twins. For Goodness sakes they have hired so much staff to do the work for them in sorting out the investigation why does Kate need to sort it out.

That's right - they left all three children at risk and that is child neglect. Carting the other two around, dumping them on relatives and denying them any sort of stability is continuing the neglect.
They say they want the police to follow up all avenues in their enquiry and then shout and scream when they and their friends are questioned. WHY? Does that not fall under "all avenues of enquiry"? A lot of child murders are found to have been committed by the parents so they should be investigated.
They were happy for the poor man and his friends to be hounded by police and press on the word of one reporter out to make a story instead of report one.
The Mcanns are sending out all the wrong signals to other parents when they should be saying learn from us - keep your children safe!

I wouldn't bet on anything Mellie: as you said, some people DO leave their children and STILL consider themselves to be super parents. Its only when it all goes horribly wrong, as in the McCann case do we see the flaws in that particular style of parenting - and it appears that the McCanns are only now beginning to admit it, because it it what the public wants to hear - not because they believe for one minute they were wrong.

I think you are far too harsh. I am a loving parent, and am very kind. I am very close to my children. And I see nothing wrong with putting the twins in a nursery (although my own children have never set foot in one - my personal choice). I heard an interview with Kate McCann yesterday and she said they used the time to sort out things for Madeleine - police interviews, etc.
And what is this "foreign country" business? Europeans are supposed to be much more child-friendly and would never harm a child, compared to the British. It is the English, who have a reputation for being paedophiles. Wrongly, in my opinion.
I think you're being too harsh.
Putting your child in a nursery isn't an indication of neglect. Otherwise most of the kids in this country would be being investigated by the social services.

I agree. Also Kate McCann left the kids to jet back to a friends christening - but they didn't report that as it ruins the 'Virgin Mary, watchful mother' image. They make me puke.....

I think it is true to say, that when we go on holiday, we tend to put our holiday heads on. People who are quite rational in the UK and constantly aware of dangers around them, seem to think that when they go abroad, it is a safer and more tolerant place to be. We become lager louts, abusive, disrespectful and we DO leave our children to fend for themselves, how many of us constantly watch our children around the local pool or seaside, then become more relaxed when we go abroad? Fair enough, the McCanns were probably doting parents when they were in the UK, but let their guard down when they went abroad, thinking their child would be safe in a room without their guidance. You wouldn't do it at home and they made a mistake and are paying for it. I think I've heard enough about the McCanns now and I think they're heard enough from the rest of us.
