Why label?

Question

Why, besides for purposes of classifcation, do people insist on labeling others? Why not see them as what they are more importantly - human beings?

I do and I realize that stereotypes have just as much of a likelihood of being true as untrue. I have no interest in knowing people as labels, I want to know them as people.

Why am I such an oddity?

Sometimes people find it easier to see people that way. They do not see others as real people until they know them as they would know a close friend. So instead of getting to know them, they label them and then forget about them.

Well that is a good question and everyone will have a diffrent answer, but the reason is people need a easieer way to classify someone and labels have been around even in the 1400's and before then with there serfs and peasnets (middle class and poor) and you arent the only one wondering this question
i think labeling is just a way to classify people but were not all the same and i wish no one wloud do it anymore

You are being label as one group if you knew, when you mixed with other groups of people. They have made recognitions and attentions with millions of dollar in monetary terms or incentive rewards by their sheer hard works. A black community has gained with their efforts not to be despised by other races.However, we are parts of mankind where love has no barrier.Is it wrong for me to love anyone eventhough you hated me?

I share the same opinion with you. Why label the muslims "terrorists"? its not the muslim but its Bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda. Not the Americans are the no. 1 terrorists in the world but its George W. Bush and his government.
