I'm in San Diego, California now, and i need a bank account for depositing, checking, etc.

I'd just like to know which bank is the best, most convenient, etc. From my understanding, Bank of America is so far the worst.. I've been suggested Wells Fargo or Washington Mutual? Anyone know the differences/benefits from both banks?

Find one that gives you:

1. No fees
2. Free checks
3. $50 to start an account with them.

Also, get one that is local to your area. If they go public, the depositors always get first shot at the stock, and it always shoots way up because whenever stock is sold, the amount of money the bank has goes up.

which bank is more convent if you have to go there in person - by the way i am from the old school i believe in using my bank as a long term friend.. i don't line bank -- never use the drive in -- i need the exercise and i want the people to know me by my first name -- that way when i think borrowing money i go to my friend the banker.

when you open your checking account you should also open a savings account and put at least 10% of your wages in it and do it each month. start working on your six month safety net in case you get laid off (savings amount in total equal to six months expenses)

Here's a less than "ordinary" suggestion for you.

After 35 years with Chase (3rd largest bank in USA) we moved to www.EverBank.com.

Free checking with interest starting at 3.41%. Free ATM withdrawls from almost any bank (upto $6 a month returned in ATM fees). On-line Bill Pay (you do need a minimum balance for this to be free). Free bank by mail envelopes. Easy deposits through other banks (not EverBank) using your ATM card. Great customer service.

We've been with EverBank since 12/2004. We love it. Good luck!
