While I understand the feelings you must have about war in general, there are some things I feel you must understand before this conversation continues...

We are not attacking any country. There are groups of people both from and not from Iraq that have slipped into that country and set up areas where they felt they could operate. Those are the people who we are actively seeking.

I don't know much about the Muslim religion, but they seem a hospitable lot to allow almost anyone who share their faith to stay with them regardless of their purpose...in the end, that makes our task in Iraq more difficult.

The fact that we are catching some of the terrorists in our country means we are doing a better job at finding threats before they strike. I am not so bold to say that we would not have caught these people without the measures that are in place now, but they seem to be helping.

The ultimate question you are asking is, in my words, "If Saddam was not a radical extremist, why did we go in the first place..." and my answer to you is: Saddam was an extremist (or have you forgotten his "ethnic cleansing"), he was bold and defiant towards both us and the UN, and with the possibility of him having weapons of mass destruction was too dangerous to continue ignoring.

The rest of it we can debate another time, but the fact remains that the reason we went in is not the same reason we stay...not all consequences are visible before something else takes place. I am pretty sure Bush didnt anticipate a terrorist confrontation in Iraq, but he's certainly making the most of the opportunity...

I just wish that Democrats would get it in their heads that although Democrats and Republicans are political opponents that there IS a common ground that they both share and this should be one. Hindsight is a great tool to use for reflection, but once something is done, it cannot be undone.

'Not that radical'. How about killing millions of his own peolple? How about starting the first Gulf War?

The terrorist are busy trying to stop Iraq from establishing a democracy. They know that a democracy in Iraq could mean the beginning of the end of their jihadist campaign. Therefore, if some terrorists make to the states; they are few and poorly prepared to carry out any tasks becasue the majority of their resources are being used in Iraq.

Bin Laden and al-Qaida are involved in an extraordinarily sophisticated and professional effort to acquire weapons of mass destruction , in this case, nuclear weapons; so, by the end of 1996, it was clear that this was an organization unlike any other one we had ever seen." per Clinton Administration,
potential for nuclear terrorism on U.S. soil and the sinister connections among organized crime, illegal immigrants, and al-Qaida. al-Qaida's paramount goal is clear: to detonate a nuclear device that would kill hundreds of thousands of Americans. al-Qaida is not content on blowing up one nuclear device or even simply a "dirty" nuke but wants to explode real nuclear devices in several U.S. cities simultaneously. al-Qaida has been devising its nuclear plan since the early 1990s and the U.S. government and other intelligence services have been well aware of al-Qaida's plan.
For many Americans the threat of al-Qaida's nuclear ambitions begins in the time after the horrific 9/11 attacks.
Bin Laden and his adherents believe a nuclear cataclysm will usher in "The Day of Islam," the dream of radical Muslims to see all of humankind fall in submission before the throne of Allah as the "Great Satan," America, is brought to her knees.
There are probably many here, and yes, if they do try, I do hope they will be caught or stopped before they have a chance to attack from the inside ,here. If you think for one minute that Saddam was not insane and that Iraq was not radical, you need to think again.

The goal of the US is to defeat terrorists when and where we find them. Who do you think are fighting US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan? Certainly not Mother Teresa's nuns.

You know why? There does not exist a sensible answer! This whole war doesn't make sense and in my experience when things typically don't make sense to a logical person who has examined a scenario thoroughly, the thing (what ever that thing may be) is typically based on a lie!
