Well, 2012 is the mayan apocalypse.
other cultures mention it as well, but the mayan version is the best known.
I have an uncle who is an ordained teacher of world religions, dedicated by Khabbalists, its really weird. But what i've picked up from him is that in 2012 the electromagnetic vibrations of earth will fluctuate and anybody who is ready to ascend will make the transition easily. All the people who don't beleive, who aren't enlighteded enough to make the ascension, will be reduced to the intelligence of dogs, because their brains will not be able to function properly at the new frequencies.
pretty cool, huh?
this interesting event coincide with what is believed to be the end of the mayan calendar, but others argue that is simply the mayan "new year" and another cycle will begin.
Interestingly enough, all the south american temples have been sold out for 2012 for years! Madonna, a practicing khabbalist, has had a reservation for over five years, i think it was, along with many other famous people.
good Q! you get a star!

It is just the end of a Mayan calendar cycle. If they were still flourishing, they'd just start another cycle. It is that simple. Someone said other cultues had some ideas about 2012. What cultures did? I haven't heard of any at all. This whole thing is just nonsense that some con man concocted and probably makes money from it in some manner, perhaps writing silly books. Nothing extraordinary will happen in 2012. I'd bet $1000 on it.

LabGrrl [LabNinja] said it very well and should get the points. In fact she was being rather polite. It is very odd that people tend to believe this sort of nonsense which makes me highly suspicious of anyone who claims that people are more intelligent than animals because we can think. Thinking is good but it is also bad because people go off and believe all sorts of ricidulous things and then pass it on to their children or others. So would people quit asking about 2012, please? Nothing will happen. Period. Back in the year 1000 people thought Jesus would return and that the world would end and all sorts of stuff. People saw rain that was blood and other strange things. But NOTHING HAPPENED. If you want to wager a bet I will gladly do so for anyone who thinks something is going to happen. You know what they say, put your money where your mouth is or shut up.

My personal beliefs on this is that will be a time of Ascension for many people. So many people have been born with a strong spiritual nature lately that I believe it will be a major change in what we can do.

2012 is not the Mayan Apocalypse.
It's the year when one of their three circular calendars turns over....just like the gregorian one does every december 31st.
The Maya had multiple calendars.
Silly people.

Depends on how you define reality. The reality program as we know it is scheduled to terminate then.

The Bible, Nostradamus, the Mayans, and others—coincidence? Are there coincidences? I think we could shrug it off easier, like the year 2000 predictions, if it wasn't a number like 2012, and if it was just one person in history that said it.
