I'm trying to to start apple seeds growing in the fridge.

-The seeds came from storebought apples.
-I wrapped 18 seeds up in 2 damp paper towels, fairly spread out. This was a few days ago. I keep dampening, but don't see any results.

Three problems I think:
-I might be making the seeds too damp?
-(My fridge is on the fritz), and it is maybe too cold?
-The seeds are genetically altered, and won't grow?

I'm not really a horitculturalist, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

(I'm not expecting good apples, and I know it takes 6 or 7 years; I just felt like trying.)

They need chilled at least 6 weeks..also you can take fingernail clippers and on the side of each seed clip a little nick out of the side of the seed close to the pointed end..alot of seeds have such a hard shell that some have trouble getting proper oxygen moisture etc to them..I do my marigolds and other hard seed coverings this way..here is an article on q &a regarding your question

You're just being impatient. Let them cool for a while. Do not keep them wet, just barely damp.
Then put tseeds where it is 68-72F and keep them in dark moist (not wet) conditions. It works in papertowels, but a bit easier in soil.

Some store apple seeds won't work some will. And the mystery of what apples you';ll get is part of the fun.

maybe Im wrong here, but wouldn't you want the seeds to be warm, and in a place where there is sun? Perhaps, say, in soil, and outside or in a sunny place by a window? Or, is there a special way of starting seeds out that I dont know about........ its just that when I have grown other vegetables and such from seed, its always been in soil and fresh air. Good luck
