I'm just a novice in using Linux. I installed Ubuntu 6.06 LTS yesterday in my PC but I can't connect to internet. I have an EDGE USB Modem named Mobidata; it works fine in Windows but Ubuntu doesn't detect it at all. Now how can I use this modem in Ubuntu??? Plz help!

I hate to break it to you, but you probably can't. To explain why would require me to explain in depth what a "Winmodem" is.
Just suffice it to say, it won't work because it was only designed to work with Windows.

This forum may help, but I can't guarantee it:

It sounds like you have a winmodem. A winmodem is a modem that uses software drivers to replace most of the hardware that is needed by a regular (hardware) modem. They are cheaper to produce, but not nearly as good as hardware modems. You may not be able to get it working. Go to the Ubuntu forums and search for people with similar issues. Another note: While Ubuntu 6.06LTS is great, Ubuntu 7.04 resolved a few hardware issues for me. Maybe you could give it a try. GOOD LUCK!

i been struggling with this as well. i've come up with this,

http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Communications/Telephony/GPRS-Easy-Connect-4528.shtml

Gprs easy connect.

like you I'm a newbie. I pretty much live and work in an 18 wheeler and i've wanted to give linux a try, but i haven't had any luck getting connected to the internet with my cingular aircard. that program is supposed to get the job done, but i haven't gotten around to trying it out yet.
I've read that pclinuxos, which is a different brand of linux, detects and runs most aircards out of the box. that too, i haven't gotten around to trying yet. Knoppix is supposed to as well, but knoppix doesn't install on your hard drive, it's a live cd only. I know it can be done.
