I'm clearly enthusiastic about retirement. I moved to an "Active Adult" community when I retired 5 years ago. Here I play 2 (and on some days 4) hours of water volleyball almost everyday and I'm active in several local theater groups. These are both activities, when I was working as a computer geek, I had no interest in. I usually bicycle at least an hour each day. My days are so full of activities (the above plus golf, tennis, softball, etc.) that I have no idea how I ever had anytime to work. I wish days were longer so I could do even more.
Meaningful (or purpose)? For me it is to enjoy life to its fullest.

My first thought was to get a mistress. Young women are so energizing. Just ...............
But there is always a good hobby of some kind.
Maybe you could go fly a kite. I find it very fun. And lots of math can be worked into it. And art. And history. Most subjects can expand like that.
Or you could watch cartoons.

If you want to find personal interests of enlightenment, ie charity work, community work and personal achievement. Ie trying to learn how to do something new or pursuing a long lost hobby and improving. Financially successful retirement would be bliss for me.

Pick up a hobby "Seriously."
The only reason why people lose enthusiasm after retirement is because they lose a sense of Purpose. It is purpose that drives us, it is purpose the binds us, moves us, Is Us. Once you lose that people seem to fade away into oblivion.
Easy fix - Just find a new sense of purpose.

Think back to those days before the job. What did you want to do? Find a cause to care about...
