I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, and on the ceiling just over the driver's seat is what appears to be a small 2" speaker. When I first start the car, I get a buzzing engine sound coming from it. Is this in fact a speaker, or what the heck is it, and what does it do?

It is not a speaker. It is a inside air temp sensor and the buzzing you hear from it is a motor that is pushing air across it. You have to replace it to fix the problem. It is really easy to do this too. Just remove the trim and gently pull the headliner down just enough to push the old one out and install the new one in. Be careful as if you crease the headliner, it is permanent. Good luck.

It is not a speaker at all. It is an aspirator. Also known as an inside air temperature sensor. It is what tells the control head the inside temperature so it knows how to adjust when its in AUTO climate.

Sometimes they buzz when it goes out. It is not an expensive part, but the buzzing does get annoying.

Goodluck!

Unless I'm mistaken, this is not a speaker. It's a microphone for the OnStar system.

it might be a tweeter, and if the wiring is wrong or has a bad connection it could make that noise.
