Pistol, Canada, Drive around, Illegal?

Is it illegal to have a pistol in your car in Canada? Can you get a license? I'm pretty sure you can get a license to own a pistol and to transport it to a shooting range or something but what about in you car, when just driving around...just curious, link would help too.
