Hello there,

If you're on XP Home or Pro and your monitor goes out and you want to shut the computer down uses these key combo

WINDOWS key (brings up the START button)
U (brings up the logoff menu)
U (logs that person off the system and shuts the computer down)

Test this while your monitor is on so that you can see the underline under these options.

Hope this works...

Hit the Windows key, then u, h, and enter. "u" is for shutdown, "h" is for hibernate, which will power down with all applications open so you don't have to worry about invisible dialog boxes from applications being shut down. Works in XP Pro at least.

Windows Key, "R", type "shutdown /f"
It should shut down within 30 seconds (gives a warning before shutting down)

Practice this first with your eyes open, then with your eyes closed. Write it down on a piece of paper and tape it to your computer.

You will just have to use the power button on the case. When you re-start, Windows will run a scan to make sure everything is running properly.
