True the ball is actually worth approximately $600,000, however the freaks at the irs are charging a 35% tax on it whether the fan keeps it or not.

False! The guy still has the ball for the time being.
News story today estimated the ball is worth about $500,000 to big collectors. Story also dealt with the decline in the sports memorabilia market. Story noted that Mark McGwire's single-season HR record ball went for about $3 million a few years ago.
Story also noted that Bonds' record-breaking ball certainly has some real value, but also suggested that the last one he ever hits will be worth as much or more (because it will be the one that A-Rod and all the others end up chasing).

Barry Bonds (2001) #73 Home Run ball sold for $450,000. but some of his other balls from the same season like number #70 sold at recent auction for less than $15,000.
To put it in perspective, it is a mile stone. But I don't think it's anywhere significant compared to Barry Bonds final home run ball that will be hit sometime in the near future. I expect it'll sell for half of what is expected ($250,000). Bonds final home run will be worth far more.
Don't expect to see the ball auctioned off for several months.

Not true. It is estimated that the home run ball will AT LEAST bring him that much money.
