One guy did a thorough study of all the incidents reported to have occurred in the Bermuda triangle. He reports:
"The number of ships and aircraft reported missing in the area was not significantly greater, proportionally speaking, than in any other part of the ocean.
In an area frequented by tropical storms, the number of disappearances that did occur were, for the most part, neither disproportionate, unlikely, nor mysterious; furthermore, Berlitz and other writers would often fail to mention such storms.
The numbers themselves had been exaggerated by sloppy research. A boat listed as missing would be reported, but its eventual (if belated) return to port may not be reported.
Some disappearances had in fact, never happened. One plane crash was said to have taken place in 1937 off Daytona Beach, Florida, in front of hundreds of witnesses; a check of the local papers revealed nothing."
He concluded by stating
"The Legend of the Bermuda Triangle is a manufactured mystery... perpetuated by writers who either purposely or unknowingly made use of misconceptions, faulty reasoning, and sensationalism."

Replying to the above post.
Dont you think that would be rather irrational?
I agree, completely with what your saying, Experience being the teacher and all, but lets, for just one second, that one of these theories is correct. Mind you im not sure what i believe about this topic. Let believe that aliens abduct the boat and the people, or demons come out of a dimensional rift and pull everything into it (Sci Fi Channel), Or as people would believe more true, that fact of the gases that lay below the water. Why would you put yourself in danger, assuming of course that every boat or plane that has gone through the bermuda triangle has disappeared. It seems rather, foolish, or even reckless to do such a thing knowing that your going to throw you own life away, tho you may find the answers you seek, im sure you wont live to brag about them next friday when you head down to your local pub.

One explanation for the planes if that pockets of methane caused them to explode or crash. This is for one, methane is flammable and it can mess with their navigational equipment. Their altitude meters work through air pressure and methane is less dense than air. Their equipment would be telling them that they are rising and pulling up at a great great so they go by the meter and dive down to an apropriate elevation. Since they are actually lower than they think, thier dive makes them crash.
Also it has been proven that there are electromagnetic anomolies (forgive the spelling there) that will disrupt any radios, compases, and can cause batteries to drain instantaniously, or just cause electronics to fail. So people can't radio back or communicate for help.
A final means of explanation for the dissapearance of ships would be large pockets of gas. The ocean floor in the bermuda triangle has a large amount of natural gas that can break through the ocean floor and create massive bubbles. These bubbles can (theoratically) be as large as an oil tankeer and when they are below boats, ther would be a pocket of space without water. The boats would first fall to fill this pocket and then water trys to fill the space above the boat so waves will clash against the sides and go over the hull. This causes the ship to sink.

I'm not too sure about what others may think about how these theories conjured up, but it does have to do with the force of water. The water is extremely dangerous near Bermuda and I think that's the reason why.

Im surprised on how everyone has there own theories..
...Where in heavens name did all those theories come from?
Tell you what.... experience is the best teacher right?
So why not take a trip there and find out yourself then you can come tell us the theory......

Magnetic forces are messing with the ships and planes electronic gear, and when they sink they sit at the bottom of the ocean. Where no one can reach because of the pressure.

Idk, underwater rifts/ tectonic plate misplacement or small volcanic vents that slowly heat up the water causing pressure differences and air displacement causing sailboats to loose control. Or large deposits of radio active materials that disturb the navigational devises on the ship.
