They don't actually walk. They just float around, tethered to the ship with a rope, or wearing a suit containing propulsion jets.

float is also inaccurate since space is a big vaccum and there is nothing for you to float actually the technical persons mention it as only space walk recently sunita williams also performed the space walk its just like mountaineering the first person who moves get a chord along with him and reaches the target area with the jet pack on his back and hook the rope in that place for others to reach that place

Walk is mainly associated with the action of moving forward (or backward). As our understanding of walking is normally associated with the act on earth, we misunderstand it for space. In space there is no Ground to walk, but action of moving forward or backward is there. In this sense Astronauts walk. Space walk is floating in the space - without support of ground for legs, and movement is without any action of legs. They are attached with the space craft by some connection, and movements are governed by push or pull towards the space craft with the help of connecting wires and hooks.

for certain actions, certain things are necessary. for a walk, surface is required. for swimming, water is required. accordingly, it cannot be space walk. one need not move his legs for a walk in the space. at best it can be space flying!
