I absolutely love Lantana...It comes in a lot of colors and is hard to kill...I am not much good at it, so I need things that don't need me..LOl.....it comes in various types too from low to ground to a little bush...I also like saliva....and confederate rose...low maintains..throw them a little miracle grow once in a while....Of course anyone can grow petunias and marigolds...I live on the MS Coast...hot and humid here too....and purple heart....purple heart is pretty with gold lantana in the ground cover style...

I find Geraniums very hardy and I like the look of both the foliage and the flowers. They come in a variety of colors, fill out an area fairly quickly, and do well in the hot and humid summer where I live.

These are all vines and are referred to as trumpet or creeper.
They do not know the meaning of death. They grow and grow and grow. They must be cut WAY back after blooming because they will grow 10 to 15 feet in a summer.

Marigolds are pretty simple to plant and grow. They are also a good bug repellant, a benefit that many plants do not have.

Daylilies are tough & hard to kill. They're so beautiful, too.
Once the Wisteria get a foothold, they take over & are really, really hard to kill.
