First off, dsl and wireless are not opposites. Wireless is not really a service, but more of a means to connect to your service. (Yes, you can get both.) Secondly, for multiple computers, I recommend using optimum online.

DSL is better as DZE recommended getting the wireless after. Keep in mind a few things about that though. If you live in an area where there is a lot of strong radio signal, then wireless is not for you. Cordless telephones signal can also interfere with the wireless internet signal.

the internet comes over the dsl
The wireless router transmits the signal 300 feet inside or 1000 feet outside,
You may be some high tech area where they are giving out wireless internet but do not think so
You will have to buy a dsl internet connection and share it via a router
Wireless is high tech but can never be as fast and trouble free as running an ethernet cable

you should get dsl or probably even cable...when you get a connection, get a router (compusa has a router for only 5 bucks), and adapters for each computer (5 bucks only too), you should choose 3mb or 6mb download cuz 4 computers can really slow down the connection. aim for 768k upload most providers only provide 384k. the cheapest company i know for dsl is att, if not avalible try verizon
wireless is not avaliable everywhere check earthlink for citywide wi-fi
