Yes you can. Get an internal or USB adaptor, and a router.
Just last week I set up my desktop to be wireless using a USB adaptor. My laptop was already on wireless, and my downstairs desktop was directly connected. I just got an IPTV box which needed to be directly connected between the router and the living-room TV, and I didn't want wires running all over the house, so the best solution was to make the desktop wireless. Everything is working fine.

Hello; Absolutely, yes! all you need is a network card (wireless) and a router (wireless), connected to your internet modem.
I recently saw a wifi router on www.tigerdirect.com for less than $26, and another, for $17! If you go to that website, they've got a toll free number, and the sales staff are pretty friendly too! I've bought a few things from them. They should be able to steer you in the right direction for getting a wireless network card that will work with the router you choose to buy.
You will need a short cable to connect the router to your internet modem, but that should come with the router. When you buy your router, and network card(s), they'll also come with simple instructions to install them. The one thing you'll need to know is, do you have an open pci slot in your computer? If you open the computer's side, and look into the motherboard (large circuit board inside) there are a series of raised white plastic connectors, about 4" in length; these are PCI slots (peripheral computer, interconnect); they do just what the name implies; interconnect peripheral devices to your computer. You should see some of these in use, and hopefully one is free (not used). If you do not have a pci slot open, you may have a card plugged in that you no longer need (like an old dial up modem), or you can look into USB network adaptors; even if you have USB 2.0, I doubt it'll be as efficient as a standard PCI network adaptor, but will be better than nothing, right?
Lastly, don't go spending hundreds for the latest ultra fast wifi routers & wifi network cards, when your internet connection is slower than the oldest wifi connection technology! It won't do you any good to have a super fast wifi card, if your internet connection is only 1mb/s... an old 802.11b is 10mb/s, and you can score one of those for next to nothing... the 16 dollar one I saw at tiger was an 802.11g (54Mb/s), much faster than you need, and perhaps perfect for future speed. If you have any specific questions, feel free to IM/email me.
I hope you found this useful!;

Yes, you have to get it a wireless adapter. They can be internal or usb. Any standard manufacturer has them.
Then, of course, you need a wireless router.

Yes, you can buy either internal adapters or USB adapters. Generally, I recommend against wireless for any device that is not portable because...802.11 sucks if your'e doing serious work.
