LoL , I get what your talking about, but your right ! people from Mexico are also Americans, there's north America, south America etc..I guess people that say that have forgotten there history. Although its funny when a person ask " Can I speak with some one who speaks American?" that's not right either do you mean someone who speaks English? plus to get into this even further I think the original "American" would be the Indians !

hmmm, you are right! We are the only ones called Americans. Our flag is the referred to as an American Flag.

Mexican Americans refers to citizens of the United States of Mexican ancestry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_Americans
Canadian-American refers to a member of that group of people living in the United States who were born, raised, or (to a lesser extent) ancestral ties to Canada. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian-American

I'm guessing you are an American...right??
I mean from the United States! lol

Well, we are the "only" country in all of the Americas, North and South, that use the word "America" in our country's name. And since a continent is not a country, does not have a government but instead just refers to a land mass, people don't associate coming from a continent as their nationality; It's the nation they come from. Hence, we are called Americans.

I don't understand why people get touchy about this. I don't get upset when spanish-speaking nations of the Americas are referred to as "Latin America." It's just a word that describes where people come from, an identifier. It's not like Amerians just call themselves that to "hog" the word or anything.

oh man, i have been wondering this for so long. when you think about it, people from countries like Argentina and Colombia are Americans, too.

i mean no offense to the country i call home but most countries prefer to not be associated with the US of A. face the facts people, the US is the butt of all jokes, the pen for the pigs. we're being laughed at.

They are Americans technically. However, the USA seems to have taken over the name American and claimed it as its own.
