I believe the answer is....this is a group of people's version of compassion...giving housing to aliens, while the rest of us work for a place to live.
Once a person gets a taste of the free ride, working for a worse place to live seems crazy.
Then we need to create job programs that move these citizens into high paying jobs...pay for baby sitting for them.
When there is no work ethic and they can't hold down the job, we need long term unemployment benefits for them.
Since they can't afford decent housing on unemployment benefits, we need to give them section-8 housing, so they can (again) live in a better place than your daughter, paying a fraction of the price. Your daughter will be waiting behind them in the grocery line as they purchase (with food stamps and WIC vouchers) better food than she can.
It truly is a great society, isn't it?

If I may remind you, not all immigrants have no skills and are useless. If you go to where I live, the immigrants are working their butts off, looking for jobs that probably pays less than McDonald's does. It's around 90 degrees out there. Yes, they do not speak English, and some do not work, but the others does. But if no immigrants come into the US, who will do the dirty work they have to do? garbage pickup, gardener, exc. Imagine walking down somewhere in LA, almost every job you see that pays low and is something you educate your children not to do, the immigrants have done.Sometimes if you go into a college, you can see immigrants working for their GEDS, trying to get their children a better life.So yes they do get education, well some of them. Immagration costs money, and as long as we have this war, we need the money.

If they came here as either asylum seekers or pre-approved refugee intakes then skills do not come into it.
As a signatory of the Convention on the Status of Refugees we have agreed to offer resettlement to refugees and asylum to those who flee persecution in thier own country.
And yes - Canada is a signatory as well so your second sentence is absolutely wrong.
And posting the article you did - which talks of a number of employed Somali immigrants and does not menion the ignorant stereotyping that you associate with it in your rant is a demonstration of quite staggering dishonesty.

Maybe this great nation of ours, long rumored to have a "big heart", has offered these poor people a haven from the suffering in their own countries. We are rich, in so many ways, so, how can we deny food, housing, safety, medicine to the poorest of God's children?
And, how do you know that one of these people is not Jesus?
("Whatsoever you do to the least of My brothers, that you do unto Me")
And how do you know that one of these people may not be the next Mother Teresa? Gandhi? MLK? Or become a doctor and save your future grandchild's life?
How do you know how many children? Their last names? Whether they work or not? Are studying English? Whatever? And...they are LEGAL immigrants, and therefore must have fulfilled all of the requirements necessary. Are you questioning your government????

For the same reason we let the Irish come to this country at the beginning of the 20th century - because this is not a utilitarian country, which judges you on how useful you are, but a country which says, "Give me your poor, tired, huddled masses, YEARNING TO BE FREE."
Some would say (myself included) that the simple yearning to be free should be the only requirement to come to this country.
Think of it this way: If we want to globalize economics....let our companies go global, exploit workers in third world countries for lower wages, lower storage, and cheaper materials....true globalization would require a globalization of the workforce: labor should be able to "go global" itself, and seek out the 1st world countries to exploit their high wages, benefits, and cost of living. That way, these two concepts balance each other out.
As long as capitalism runs rampant across the globe, we live a lie of "we believe in free markets" if we don't also allow labor to be global.

Because we care about all people, our history, and not all who come here are unskilled. This is the land of opportunity. Show me any other place where all can have a chance for success. If they are willing to work and learn they will be successful. Peace

There are laws, employers are not legally "Knowingly" allowed to employ illegal immigrants. Employees must be authorized to work in the US ie. have a work visa, residency

The Somalis are political refugees. I suspect most of them work and you are just spinning lies as usual about their work status.
Other legal immigrants have to have a means of support.
