Anniversary of Korean People's Victory in War Observed
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The Songun Group posted an article titled "Warm congratulations to the DPRK on its victory in the Fatherland Liberation War" July 27, the 54th anniversary of the victory of the Korean people in the war.

The homepage said the Korean War was a just anti-imperialist, anti-U.S. war to achieve national liberation and win the class struggle and a war which defended socialism and global peace and propelled the world revolutionary movement.

The Korean War clearly proved validity and vitality of the Juche-oriented view on the war that the victory and defeat in war depend on the ideological and moral advantages, not on weapons, , adding the might of the Songun idea was fully demonstrated through the war.

President Kim Il Sung wisely led the Fatherland Liberation War against the U.S. imperialists to brilliant victory, performing great exploits for the Korean revolution and world revolutionary cause.

The director for political affairs of the Pan-African Movement in a statement July 26 noted DPRK's victory in the Korean War was a historic miracle and a world-startling event, adding the Korean people under the leadership of Kim Jong Il would always emerge victorious.

I've been listening to the English language shortwave broadcast of the DPRK for over forty years. It's one of the last great bits of comic relief left in international broadcasting. But, I don't credit it with any semblance of reality. My favorite moment was shortly after the Third Russian Revolution of 1991. Radio Pyongyang, in its news block, called it the "recent event in Moscow"!
Those poor beggars still trapped north of the 38th parallel, with their shrinking, starved bodies, have sadly learned that it's hard to practice Juche (self-reliance) when oil and food exports from the Russians come to a screaming halt.

I believe that North Korea is fiercely nationalistic. That combined with the variant Leninist-Marxist theory of "Juche" or, as mentioned above, an ideology of self reliance has allowed North Korea to circulate such "propoganda" among its twenty three million or so citizens. But if we look at North Korea from their points of view, this sort of thing is perhaps validated to some, if not a small degree. Being so isolated, North Korea must demand some respect from other countries. And in order to demand respect towards the government, this sort of propoganda is necessary to an extent.
