We need to put an AC in a vertical sliding window and need to now if a 5000 BTU AC will work vertically or not.

The compressor will pump all of the oil out of itself and not be able to work for long. It must be positioned as designed. Vertical-style PTACs are available for this application. You will need to contact an appliance store or heating/cooling contractor who can order this type for you.

Hell no. Do not even attempt it. The compressor must remain upright. Sorry for my French, but it will destroy the unit.

your best bet is to knock the window out and replace it with a replacement window. This will be cheaper then blowing up your airconditioner.

NO...you'll lose your oil and kill the compressor.
