Either a poltergeist or a transdimensional alien. I've seen it both ways.
Chances are you are living in a geopathic zone and the bugger just moved in on you... either that, or it was preexisting with the house. The longer a place has been developed, the greater the probability that it is geopathic, and therefore more likely to make a person sick, and more likely to attract ghosts.
To get rid of the bugger, you have stand your ground firmly and claim your territory. Start by getting something called a "smudge stick". Start by focusing your intent, invoke God's protection, and invoke Archangel Michael. Then you open the front door, light the smudge stick and start working each room (with intent) from the back of the house on forward, with the smoke while talking to the ghost. You tell the ghost that he is not welcome here, he doesn't have permission to be here, and that he must leave. Make sure you put smoke in all the "in-between areas" like cupboards, closets, stairwells, attics, hallways and the like.
Basically, you are chasing the bugger out the front door. You close the front door and consider it sealed with another circle of the smoke.
I would also get some candles with a clearing scent: vanilla or pine... burn those in any room you are in.
You should also consider getting some essential oils from the local health food store to smear on doorways, mirrors, the phone, appliances, and anything else that is effected. Sweet orange, sage, cedar, vanilla, myrrh are all considered clearing. They are good for wood, too.
Consider burning a little sage before going to bed at night because the smoke will keep the room clear.
If you have any trouble, let me know, I can send you a symbol to print out and place around the house that will take it to a higher court.

You do not have a poltergeist. Doorbells and phone calls are pranks, you can be sure of that. I used to pull those pranks myself when I was a little kid.
Shingles off your roof can happen any time. Wind, rain, storms, age, or poor workmanship can all be causes for that.
If your fish are dying, you need to either take better care of their tank, or trash your filtration system and buy a new one. You also might want to check the oxygen levels more often, buy water cleansing drops (at your local pet store), and try changing the type of food you feed them. Ask at your pet store for the best type of food to feed your type of fish.
I work at a place where poltergeist activity is so common, I get more worried when something DOESN'T happen. Doors slamming, water turning on and off, light switches flipping, and things flying off of shelves are just the tip of the iceberg here. Poltergeists are not known for being subtle. Sometimes they are silly just to mess with you, but most of the time the activity will be much more blatant than what you're describing.
Always do your best find a natural explanation for things before you freak yourself out. What you're describing sounds like normal daily life in a suburban community.

well, i think your roof endured some strong winds, and thats why your shingles are missing.
im guessing your fish need to be fed more often, or have a cleaner tank.
however, as far as the phone/doorbell thing goes, i find that interesting and would say you definatley may have some interference with "the other side"....to say poltergiest though, scares me bc it sounds bad. i dont know how much you believe in the subject, but if you have a passed loved on, this could just be their way of communicating with you. have you ever heard of spirits dropping coins? the phone and doorbell thing could work the same way.
how many times has this happend to you? take note of the time of day this happens, see if theres a pattern to it if it happens on a semi-regular basis
in the meantime, theres nothing to be afraid of

About the doorbell and the phone calls, I suspect some of the neighborhood kids are playing pranks. I can't explain the shingles, unless you have had some strong winds lately. And the fish, occasionally, will die because of chemicals in the air that may affect the condition of the water in the tank. (We had the outside of the foundation sprayed to keep out spiders and such, and unknowingly there was an open window. My fish died.) And finally, poltergeists usually are children who have the ability to project their emotions, so unless there is a teenager in the house I don't think you have one with you. By the way, if you do have a teenager, they usually "grow out" of their ability to do so.

The above suggestions are signals of ghost activity. Ghosts and poltergeists are not the same thing.
I agree that the doorbell and phone are probably just some kids playing pranks on you. (the fish dying and the shingles missing are probably random)
However, malfunctioning electronics ARE a sign of poltergeist activity.
Other signs include things like items changing location, items moving without physical assistance, items shaking when there's no earthquake, papers scattering with no wind...that sort of thing.
If it's just pranksters I suggest you either:
1, wait for them to get bored with it, or
2, call the police.
If it's a ghost:
1,You could try smudging the house with some sage and or
2, calling a priest or your neighborhood witch to either send it on it's way or find out what it wants or
3, which is more risky, try to talk to it yourself using something like an ouija board. I don't recommend that one, it's dangerous.
If it's coincidence, I suggest you shrug it off.
If it's a poltergeist...I suggest you Make ABSOLUTELY Sure it can't be anything else...
Then congrats, you (or someone in your house) are a pk.
You need to learn to control it, as soon as possible, because pk is dangerous, especially if you don't know what you're doing, and tends to be fed by strong emotions, so the more scared/angry you get, the worse it'll be.
I suggest you check out the articles on psipog.net, starting with the ones on shielding, then try to contact someone at the psionguild.com
You can also try getting a priest to do an exorcism, but this will only work as well as your belief in it. I understand exorcisms can be painful. It might work though, but yu have to believe in it with the part of you that believes that the sun will rise tomorrow, not just with wishful thinking. But it might work for you.
It's probably just a combination of pranks and coincidence, though.:D

Hmmm....
about the doorbell: maybe some annoying kids come to your house to ring it?
then phone calls: they say that some spirit is trying to contact you when that happens. Like...someone you knew who died. They just want to get your attention.
The shingles: could be the wind could be the ghost....I believe the ghost theory beter though.
Fish dying: check the water. But otherwise.....it kind of DOES sound like you have a ghost....

Apart form the fish dying, It kinda sounds like a prankster!
Do you have cold spots in the house?, do you feel like your being watched? Do you ever feel someone touch you when no -one is there? Do your pets go crazy when the door bell goes off or the phone rings

I think by "poltergeist", u mean demon. Demons DO exist, and they torment ppl. if u want to get rid of it, then the best way to do that is pray to Jesus/God to get rid of it, sing some worship songs, and wear a cross. Saying "Jesus Christ" out loud a few times reallllly scares the demons away.
