The short answer is yes.
The long answer is that key duplicating machines vary in accuracy, so your duplicate of a duplicate may not work well.
As you make duplicates of duplicates of duplicates, each generation is a little worse than the one that preceeded it.
One key machine manufacturer used to advertise to locksmiths that the 15th generation would work. That's a stretch.

Yes. Most of the keys that are copied by locksmiths are ones that were already duplicated. It has the exact same information as the original one had.
