Absolutely get a macbook!! I am using one right now and it's amazing... it is much easier to use than PCs (once you get used to it). I've had several PCs and they've always ended up having some kind of problem; I've been using this macbook constantly (at least 4 hours a day) for about a year now, and I've had no problems so far. I would definitely recommended the macbook, it is so worth your money. And it's a lot of fun once you really learn the cool shortcuts, etc. they have.

Ok. If all you are using your comp for is going on the internet and itunes then I would suggest a pc laptop because you can get one that can do that for much cheaper than a mac, but since you seem to have problems with virus and spyware and annoying pop-ups and if you have the cash to give up then definetly get a Mac. They will suit you very well for all you have to do and iTunes works way better on a Mac then on a pc. Not meaning to offend you or anything but If you are not too good with computers and have troubles with virus' and spyware and popups then I definetly recommend a Mac. I convinced one family that are begginers with computer to get a Mac and they were very pleased as all they wanted to do was go on the internet and listen to music and msn/aim/yahoo. Mac's do not get viruses and are very safe computers. My parents have gone 2 years without a reformat and they are computer beginners.
Also. About the post above me. If you are a beginner then Linux is not for you. It is a very hard Operating System to get used to while Mac is very easy and all programs that you could probably need are on the Dock. I would not recommend Linux for beginners. Also Mac's do not have anywhere near to all the virus' that there are for XP.
Since PC is a lot better than Mac tell me why there are many more viruses for the PC. Mac's are mac's, you cannot custom build them, they are optimized for performace with the Mac Operating System, this means that they only support the hardware that they need to. Also so far in the Mac OSX era if you bought a mac 4 years ago, and all the new versions of Mac started coming out you do not need to upgrade to run the new version, unlike Vista to Xp. In mac the current version will run just as well as the previous version. Mac's obviously do have their downsides but for what you want to do with your new system then a Mac would be perfect for you.

pro's and cons
Con's
Mac systems are expensive
Mac software is expensive
Mac repairs are expensive
Mac Hardware is expensive
Mac Support you'll need to check it out
your tied to mac for everything for the life of the computer so they control you and your system.
pro's
Mac will run XP/Vista,with crossover
software 90% good, comes with basic software packages like a the PC
graphics good not hardware generated.
PC Pro's and con's
You can pick your own speck
you already have the software
the PC is more powerful and faster
you can run what ever operating system you like, Mac OS/x, Windows XP/Vista,or Linux, (I would not recommend Vista until service pack 1 is released some time next yr)
repairs are cheaper and your not tied to anyone.
Linux is free, all the softwear is free,
Do some real research into what the PC can actually do, when you install Linux
go to youtube.com and in the search bar type linux, watch all the video's on Linux then go to mac and watch their video's same with Vista and see what can be done with each system... you will find out the PC With Linux on it will out shine the mac...and windows vista
some say mac's don't get viruses,,, windows gets viruses, use windows on a mac and you will get Viruses,,, and Mac is able to get Viruses, Mac was the first computer system to get a virus in the 80's
the choice is yours

I totally vote for the MacBook. I have a Pro,15.4-in and I can't go anywhere without the thing. I have had many PC's and they have all crashed on me. With my Mac, I can go to whatever website I want, and I have absolutely no viruses/spyware, and it's extremely fast. I paid a little bit more but it has lasted me forever, and after having tried both, i would never go back to PC. Although, you do have to buy software specific for the Mac, which isn't much of a problem, because they come with a ton of software on them anyway. iLife, iWork, Garage Band, many small fun applications, iTunes, Internet, iChat, which works the same way as AIM. I personally find it much easier to use. None of my Apple products (iPhone, MacBook, video and nano iPods) have come with manuals because everything seems very self explanatory, even for someone like me who's not so good with computers. But whatever you choose, good luck!

And I'm one of those people who disagree. :P
Macs are renowned for not having any of the viruses, trojans, spyware, adware and so on that Windows is plagued with. Put simply, you wouldn't have to worry about that stuff again. And actually, once you know where to look (much like in the Windows world), there are tons of apps for Mac OS X, many of them easier to use than their Windows equivalents. There's a bit of a learning curve when switching from Windows, but there are plenty of resources online (and offline from other Mac users, who are usually happy to help new switchers get up to speed) to help you out. Compatibility's definitely not an issue, as just about every major program of any kind on Windows has either a Mac version, or an equivalent program on the Mac. I used Windows ever since I was a small child, switched in 2004, and have never even wanted to look back. I highly recommend it. :)

I see you just reposted the question :) glad it's back!
Really its a matter of personal preference and what you are going to be using it for.
Personally I abhor mac because software for it isn't as easy to come by, and I like the customize-ability of the PC.
Macs are generally better for software developers, but PCs are generally better for the average computer users. Of course, some people will disagree.

Since PC is a lot better than Mac, you should get a PC. I would highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092.

ok
pc: common and most ppl have it plus its compatible with most programs and games. if u get a mac you will have to buy games and are made for a mac and you will have to buy software that is also made for a mac. even though pc's get viruses, spyware... there are programs to help delete and protect those. it may be a hassle but it is worth it. for me i personally like the pc better
mac: not the most common type and is mostly made and used for its looks. macs also don't get as many viruses, spyware, etc but are not compatible with most software. macs are also mostly made for ppl who have a job in computer design (such as photoshop or flash)
u choose whichever one u like, but i suggest getting a pc.
