As much as I like Jeter, probably not. The player that I think has the best chance to break Rose's record is Ichiro Suzuki! He always gets 200 hits a season. Then, again, I could be wrong.

Jeter would have to average almost 180 hits a season for the next 10 years to catch Rose. I'm betting that Derek Jeter will not still be playing when he's 44 years old.
He won't even get within 700 hits of Pete Rose.

I don't think so. Rose has 4256 hits. Jeter has 2300 now, and will probably have between 2350-2360 by the end of this season.
That will put him 1896 hits behind Rose. He's 33 now. Even if he plays another 8 full seasons after 2007 he'd have to average 237 hits a year.

No, according to the recent stats, he only has a 2% chance of even breaking 4,000
EDIT: David H - I agree that Ichiro would have a strong chance and is arguably the best singles hitter in the game, but you have to remember that he is 33 years old with just over 1500 hits. If you combined his hits from Japan, then he has almost 3,000 hits now!!! Incredible!!! And he would blow right past Rose, no sweat. But...you cant combine his Japan stats, so he wont come close in the MLB.

He would have to average nearly 200 hits for the next 10 years to break Rose's record, so I would say no.

Jeter would be my best bet, but I see no reason for a player that makes over $20 million a year to play well into his 40s. Hate to see the day he retires though.

He has 2300 hits at age 33. He's going to have to play extremely well into his mid 40s to break the record. Personally I think he'll top off at around 3600 at best.

Probably not. Jeter will go down as one of the best competitors and team players the sport has ever known. But other than that...probably not.

No, I don't think he'll get that far. I do think he'll end up with around 3,300-3,500 hits, which is definitely a great number of hits for a career!
