Doesn't everyone realize that before Wal-Mart was big, it was K-Mart, and if Wal-Mart didn't exist, everyone would be hating on Target right now? I'm so sick of hearing anti-Wal-Mart propaganda. Especially about how Wal-Mart drives mom and pop stores out of business. What a croc, studies show that it actually helps the local business because people are willing to travel further to shop at Wal-Mart and the surrounding businesses. Not only that, but it's one of the FEW places where you can start at the very bottom and work your way up. They give you a chance when you thought you didn't have anymore. Not only that, but what about all the good things they do for the communities? Two words: Hurricane Katrina. If it wasn't for Wal-Mart shipping out all that water in their own trucks, a lot more people would have died. I just don't understand all the hating...? Wal-Mart might not be fun to shop at ALL the time, but get over it, that's life. Anyone else feel the way I do?

If you work for Wal-Mart and don't like it, stop whining and just quit. Same thing goes for shoppers who have to complain about EVERY little thing. If you hate it so much, don't shop there. So annoying.

SCL: Your blaming your lack of experience on Wal-Mart? It's Wal-Mart's fault that you can't get a better job? That is absurd... Also, you do realize that Wake Up Wal-Mart is funded by unions that are absolutely furious because they can't unionize Wal-Mart right? Sounds like you need to read up. But anyway, it doesn't matter. The politics don't matter in this survey because I just want to know why shoppers prefer Target over Wal-Mart.

I agree. People will always go for convenience, and most the complainers probably shop there anyway. Probably mostly uppity people have the problems. I was watching the local news one time, and there was big controversy about building a Wal-mart in an affluent area. They interviewed some guy and he said "this is a high end area, places like Wal-mart will attract a different class of people and increase traffic and crime"

In general, it's because Wal-Mart takes advantage of their size and market share. They usually don't pay competitive wages or offer health insurance. They put enormous pressure on suppliers to meet certain requirements - sometimes requiring packaging or sizes that aren't consistent with the manufacturers business plan. That being said, Wal-Mart is not all bad. There are many smallish communities where they have brought a department store where one didn't exist before - and in those towns, there often are not enough small businesses selling a variety products to meet the needs of the market. With regard to jobs, it's easy to complain about what Wal-Mart doesn't offer, but what if it's a situation where Wal-Mart is creating new jobs where none existed before? Lastly, the low prices offered by Wal-Mart may create an unfair advantage over other retailers, but they also improve the standard of living for people living near or below the poverty line. For those people, saving money here and there means they have more money to spend on other things. It's easy to complain about Wal-Mart and their business practices - and in many cases the complaints are justified. But the complaints often come from people who have the choice of shopping elsewhere. And as with any issue, there is another side that deserves attention.

did u know that most of the people that work for walmart are on welfare? walmart is costing taxpayers money and the reason that the people dont quit is because its so hard to find a job when u dont have experience at anything. i work there and have been looking a job for 6 months or so and no one has called yet. its not easy. mostly all the jobs ive had have been in stocking. its a rut that so many people at walmart is trying to get out of it. if u dont understand why people dont like walmart then go check out the wake up walmart website. it is enlightening.

I like Target because there are no crowds, inconsiderate people hogging the aisles with their carts, and cuter (and better quality) stuff. Although I hate to admit, I like Wal Mart for being so cheap and open 24 hours.
