Make or buy signs and have on main streets
Have the sale on a specific day that a lot of garage sales are going on in your area/surrounding..
Word of mouth through school,church or other social group(s)

Advertise big ticket items by newspaper or just put it out front to attract customers.Multi family sales also do good

Placing an appealing sign, in our area, we have online garage sells.. Put an add in the newspaper, advertiser..

If you're hanging up 9x11 signs, laminate them first, and use clear masking tape or a stapler gun. (They won't get recked by hoodlums or rain, and they'll stay up.)
I've heard of somebody posting on 'kijiji'. It's worth a shot because it's free.
