Every pregnancy is different, but I've always known women to experience both at the same time. Example 30% enfaced dilated to 1cm. If you are 40% you should start to dilate soon, but more than likely you will probably pop around your due date! good luck!

Usually with a first pregnancy, you tend to efface more before you start dilating. With subsequent pregnancies, you tend to have both happening at the same time. But everyone is different.

First you become effaced and then you dilate. If you're 40% effaced then you will probably start to dilate soon. When that happens it's anytime.

Good luck.

Actually, they can both happen at the same time, although if you are a first-time mother, your cervix will probably ripen and effect before dilation begins.

effaced means thinning of your cervix and dilation means opening. They may come together, or at seperate times, usually your cervix needs to thin before it opens. Good luck!
