We no longer have the luxury of watching an enemy build military and naval strength over years or decades. We no longer face uniformed divisions massing at the borders. We face instead a group of depraved murderers to whom nothing is off-limits, who fear no earthly retribution, who love and glorify death for its own end and who hate not only all that we do, but all that we are with a black bitterness that we cannot begin to imagine.

The way Bush uses the term, very much so. Similar to the yellow ribbon stickers for the troops while not really supporting them in any meaningful or tangible way.

Bush has scared neo-cons into doing his bidding, yet neo-cons speak as though they are brave. When Bush says "jump for my protection" neo-cons don't even ask how high. They just start jumping. I've never seen such a large, frightened group of Americans all gathered in one place. Please inform me when I may have my 4th Amendment rights back... Thanks.

Fear is the enemy upon which terrorists thrive on. Bush and the neo-cons have fed them well.

PS: Good post by the way. We don't have to agree for me to acknowledge the effort of a thought-out post. A star for you.

Yes, I understand the point.

Terrorism is and always will be in existence to some degree, but it is a matter of police and intelligence work, not military might, that will curtail it as it has for decades. When we see officials on TV talking about a foiled terrorist plot, how was it foiled? It wasn't the Army capturing terrorists but police intelligence doing their job.

The number of terrorist attacks on foreign soil since 9/11 is about the same as it was in the six years before 9/11. The only change was that our government failed to catch the biggest in American history, and now that failure is used to politicize terrorism as some type of World War with an enemy that can be defeated with military force.

Terrorism is real, but the threat it poses to Americans in their every day lives is minimal and always will be.

Darling.

No. Bumper stickers are just a way for Americans at home who cannot fight in the war in Iraq, with the soldiers who are now, to support them. They send a message to the world, and to our military that we love them, and support their mission. Soldiers would prefer a bumper sticker saying I love you, than Liberal protestors saying "You're maimed for a lie", like they did at Washington Memorial Hospital in Washington DC.

Does there need to be a war on terror - YES, but HOW do we go about it? Do we FINISH the job in Afghanistan and capture bin laden. That is what we should have done. We DID NOT NEED TO GO INTO IRAQ. Although Huessain was a criminal, he did NOT get along with terrorists because he was A DICTATOR. He did not want them trying to take over his country. He hated Saudi Arabia, and bin laden hated him. There were no terrorists in Iraq, and if bush would have decided to FINISH THE JOB, we would not be in this problem.

War on terror is needed. Politics as usual is NOT, and that is what bush did...
