How many countries can you see in Europe if you are backpacking through for about 1 -2 1/2 months during the summer. Being able to spend time and explore and enjoy each place, not just blow through it.

Most countries in Europe are as big as states in the USA, but most have a higher number of population, with much more to see and do.

If you really want to see a country you can spend months there and still have missed places.
For instance, my parents have been biking through France for the holidays the last 20 years, different regions and routes each year and while they have seen a lot, there are also still a lot of places they have not seen.

But if you want to get a good impression of the continent, select about 6 countries that have some meaning to you, (family roots or you have read a lot about them and now want to see for yourself,) and spend a week in each.
3 days in the biggest town, and one day in a village and then 2 days in a smaller town.
That way you can see a lot. But you can still take in what you see and remember where you have been.
You can choose countries that are near each other and travel by train or bus from one to the other, or you can take long (overnight) trainrides or flights between the countries of your choice.

You would get a good impression of Europe if you combine, for instance:
Denmark - Copenhagen and one of the island or a bit of the mainland.
Germany - Berlin, Munich.
Chech Republic - Prague, Brno.
Switzerland - Geneva, Luzern.
France - Paris (spend a week there,) and any one of the smaller towns.
Spain - Barcelona, Madrid, or go to the towns in the south.

If you do the two days in a country kind of trip you will be able to cover most countries in Europe, but you will not be able to remember them. All will blur together. So better safe a few for a second trip!

I have done this when I was younger. The problem that I ran into was that there were so many great places and I didn't want to leave a lot of the time. I settled on keeping a base of operations in Switzerland and going on excursions from there. I picked up a used VW van at the airport in Luxembourg and Just cruised around. I was there for three months and hit about 7 countries. Loved Spain and the Italian Riviera. Take your time and have fun. i think that you have the right idea. A Eurail pass is a good way to go aswell.

hmm... Oslo- Bergen you may no longer do in in basic terms 2 days because it takes plenty to commute from one city to the different.(it would sound unusual although that's because of the fjords). So, it rather is recommended to grant greater time to Norway. i attempted to do an identical difficulty interior an identical quantity of time, and it became impossible. finally i had to adhere purely to Bergen, as i had purely one weekend obtainable. So, in case u desire to alter ur strategies, i adivese u to pass to Bergen and not Oslo. on the different hand, you may somewhat do Paris in 2 days.. as long as you recognize the place to pass and the thank you to get there (verify u get a map or a handbook or smth). Amsterdam - 3 days is greater advantageous than adequate. i think of maximum ecu cities could be visited in 2 days - you may get to work out the main severe factors of interest/locations. I cant say something approximately Copenhagen, as i've got on no account been there. good success and have relaxing!
