The Beatles, Rush, Blur, Gorillaz, The Fratellis, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie just to name a few. Why is it that all of the good music comes from these countries? I'm more of an old music kind of person (in between the late 60s and early 80s), and I've noticed that most good music comes from these countries. Sure, The Doors were an awesome American band, but there isn't much more out there. Let's see... you've got the publicity whores that just make a quick buck from producing "music", and get praise for it by the one-dimensional nincompoops that listen to that crap (50 Cent, Amy Winehouse, Paris Hilton, and Britney Spears for example). Thanks, your answers are always appreciated!

Well, those countries have more of an emphasis on music and education. people I know from those countries say that generally, they start leaning instrumenst when they are kids. I've never had a decent music class in my life, and music programs are always being cut from American schools, but there are plenty of good american bands/musicians
The Doors (as you said)
The Grateful Dead
CCR
Bob Dylan
Simon and Garfunkel
Boston
Blue Oyster Cult
Tom Petty

You cant say ALL. Either you dont know, or dont appreciate other good music from the era.
Doors, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Foreigner, Loverboy, Kiss, Styx... And more from that era.
Cinderella, Motley Crue, RATT, Poison, Great White, Kingdom Come, etc from 80s, more in the 90's and a lot of new hard rock in the 00's.
Yeah, I like British Metal and classic Rock, but I like American, Canadian and what little aussie metal was out there as well. I like the new hard rock as well, which most seem to be american and canadian. A few brits and aussies have shown up, but percentage is against u. ;-)

Hey im just like you, a lot of the artists you named are actually britpop..maybe you just like that genre (I do!)
Its just the culture and time era, of course in the states there are a lot of more "50 cents" and "thug fo' lifes", but there are a lot of those type of musics in other parts of the world.
I agree, a lot of american music are one hit wonders..from actor to musician or some crap, but we do have good stuff. Some of our best is country, early rock, so give us some credit.
But I totally understand what you're saying..why can't we have skilled songwriters like in the UK/canada/australia

Bad American marketing. Sorry, but they do produce "stars" to generate profits, not perform good music.

It would be my guess that it is because there is so much rich heritage in these countries; probably these people had centuries of musicians in their ancestry....
