Where you live do people hang out their clothes to dry?
Are there regulations about something so trivial?
I want to see how much money I can save not running the dryer constantly but I can't even find an outdoor drying line (or twirly) in any store and I haven't seen washing hanging in any neighborhood gardens.

Your thoughts?

I come from Ireland where everyone hangs their washing out to dry. It makes the clothes smell fresher and saves energy. I was told here that the clothes fade in the sun. I also lived in South Africa and we hung our clothes out there. Try your local hardware store for various lines including twirly.

I have never heard of their ever being a regulation on drying your clothes outside,
They are not real popular stores don't see a profit in stocking them,
but if you look you can find clothes pens every where,
go to a hardware store or a places like Lowes or Home Depot and ask them, some carry the umbrella type,
I hang out clothes at least once a week,
my neighbour hangs stuff out once in a while also.
If you live in a Home Owners Association neighbourhood check the rules with them before you put one up they might not allow them.
I hope I was able to help you with your Question.

As others have noted, it makes your clothes smell better/fresher.

As someone else mentioned, look for clothes lines & pegs or a twirly at the hardware store. If you can't find anything for outdoor drying in your area, there may be a bylaw against it! The hardware store should be able to tell you. There are some condo associations with rules against it.

Is it frowned upon? Not by environmentalists.

I am here in Cali and most people do have dryers but you still see some laundry out drying in the sun. Nothing wrong with it here nothing says anything, all in your own preference. I do it with my work shirts so they dont fade or shrink. I would say try target, walmarts, bed, bath and beyond, Big Lots for a clothes line. If no luck there why dont you just go to a hardware store and big up something smooth plastic ropes, basically the same thing and probably more length of line for your money and you can cut to your needs.

I live in a little town in Ohio. I hang out some of our clothes to dry. The ones I don't want to shrink I hang out. In ohio there isn't any laws against this. Here where I live you can by your clothes pins, line, clothes line posts, or twirly at Meijer, Lowes, or Home depot. I see other people in my area hanging out clothes also but not to many. If you want to do it I wouldn't worry what other people think.

Where I live it is perfectly normal to hang your clothes out to dry. I don't notice many people hanging clothes out to dry these days....but when I was younger, everyone was doing it.

I say go for it, try and save on your electricity. The only reason why I don't hang mine out to dry is because you don't get that fresh smell as when they are in the dryer, the clothes smell more like...outside.

Spoiled I guess!!

We live in good ole Tennessee and hanging out clothes is normal. I was raised up seeing my mother hang everything out to dry so I am continuing the tradition. I even hang blue jeans out to dry and I know that they are stiff but all you have to do is bring them in and stick them in the dryer for about 5 minutes and they are as soft as they had been completely dried in the dryer. It is PURE pleasure to get into bed and smell those fresh clean sheets after they were lined dried, a good ole fashioned feeling that you don't forget...............

drying your cloths outside does definitely help with electric bills. Just remember that people do not want to see your underwear hanging outside. anything else is probably acceptable though. As for finding a line to dry things on...id say just go to any Home Depot or Lowe's, they might have them and if they don't then try wall-mart. even if you cant find something marked as a drying line, you can use thin rope.

I don't know of any places that have an ordinance against hanging out laundry. Actually, it is being encouraged more and more recently due to environmental concerns since it saves electricity. Don't worry about not seeing laundry hanging out at other homes. You should do what makes you happy and what you think is the right thing to do. Maybe you will start a trend in your neighborhood!
