This is pounded into every Journalism/English major's head from day one:
The biggest advice is this: (1) do NOT COPY WORD FOR WORD anything you write and turn in as homework.
(2) Give credit to your source: author's name, name of book, article, etc (includes things emailed to you, is drawn by someone else, or even is implied.(3) Credit magazines, books, newspapers, songs, TV programs, movies, web pages, computer programs, letters, or ads).(4) Give credit to interviews--whether on the phone, face-to-face, or in writing. (5) Credit all historical documents.(6) Credit exact words or unique phrases,(7) Credit reprinted diagrams, illustrations, charts, pictures, or videos.
(8)Take notes from the source, but ONLY what you feel are the most important facts or details, and then write it in YOUR OWN WORDS (teachers will know it's not your work if you suddenly start spelling everything correctly or using words/phrases you have not used before).
