Hi Patzky,
Confidence, is unconditional acceptance of yourself as you are.... This self-acceptance provides a "space" in which you can relate to others, authentically without undo anxiety....
>>>>>
There's quite a bit of "false confidence" in the world : people who strut about with a manufactured veneer of confidence, who've learned to shake hands firmly, smile all the time, and flatter others to pave the way for their popularity...
>>>>>
Another variation on false confidence is : the person who says "I don't care what others think, I'm my own man / woman".... This is simply denial, and it usually shows up as something closer to hostility than true confidence....
>>>>>
A confident person isn't perfect, and they know they're not perfect.... But they're not "wigged out" about their imperfections... they accept their own imperfections as just part of being human, and have a sense of humor about them...
>>>>>>
Someone, who has accepted themselves this way.. also helps to lighten the burden of self-judgment for others : they have a warmth and compassion, which glows and resonates with the true self of others... There's no manipulation, attention-seeking, or domination in this kind of confidence : it's win-win rather than : "I-win, you-lose"....
>>>>
Sometimes, it shows the most strength to listen to someone who is in pain...and THEN to go.. and do something to relieve that pain... That is where courage is involved...
Without courage, NO confidence..
>>>>
Thanks, for the question! :)

My regards!

Take care!

In order to act upon your courage, you need the confidence that it will be effective. Silly example, but some may see a man jump into the ocean to save a drowning child as courageous, but it's NOT if he doesn't know how to swim. Conviction--is borne of time tested CONFIDENCE in one's ability. Courage without confidence would be foolhardy. So...there's clearly a connection, & you need confidence to have courage.

Edit: I don't think Ted Bundy is a good analogy. See Kimberly's 3rd paragraph for clairification.

I think if you'd never had cause to fear, then you could be confident without really needing to be courageous. I think, even if you've had fear and pain, then an innate sense of confidence (which I think we all have deep down, when we're realizing ourselves and our truth) supports courage. Sometimes taking those leaps into life requires a great deal deal of courage (for some more than others, for those who've had loss). Then courage supports confidence.

Only a problematic connection exists. Diffidence can be courageous when confidence is common currency. Virtues can not be qualified but the idea of confidence can: "Ted Bundy was confident in his skill at murdering innocent people." Was Ted Bundy a courageous killer?

Edit: Psychology has yet to account for human nature. The world is stuffed silly with the babblings of overconfident amateur (advanced degrees and all) psychologists. Courage belongs to the other virtues and can only be understood in relation to them and wisdom. The real clue here is the seeking of wisdom rather than overconfidence in one's own position to the question put.

You must build the courage to show you're confindent. Being confident in what you believe in shows risk which also takes courage. Whenever one is used, somehow, a conection can be shown to demonstrate anything is possible.
