My family has the good cooks. Mamma and my Aunts get together, they cook the best food ever. Pasta, meats, breads, sauces, deserts...way better than any restaurant you could find. They'll stuff you like a pig,Joey!
I am 26, and I never went out with a girl that can cook like this( some of their mothers were also great cooks, though) I went to one girls house for a homecooked meal, and her idea of homecooked is one of those frozen banquet 2 pound meal boxes.
My younger cousins, and nieces almost show no interest in it.
I met this one girl online, she said she like Italian food...but her idea was going to olive Garden.
Are we losing the old style of cooking? I mean, I can cook...lots of us guys can cook...but nothing tastes better than a woman who loves you cooking . This goes for all women...they have a magic.
Before you ladies jump on me- I'm not chauvanist, I don't think you only belong in kitchen barefoot.

It's true that our mothers and grandmothers were great cooks. They made everything from scratch -- no boxed mixes or convenience foods. And they passed recipes down from generation to generation. Those were simpler times when women seldom worked outside the home, and had more time for cooking, housework, sewing, and other domestic chores. But let's give credit to today's women also, who help bring home the bacon, still find time to raise their kids, do housework, and cooking comes in a poor last. There just isn't time to prepare the kind of meals our moms did, so they have to rely on quick fixes, prepared salads, etc. However, I don't believe cooking is a lost art, since there are cookbooks now that have specialized recipes; i.e., for vegetarians, diabetics, low fat, low sodium, etc. We are a generation of health-conscious people, but we can still enjoy tasty meals.

Actually, I think that they are.
With all the take out and ready-meals. Hardly anyone has a real homemade dinner at home anymore, I do think the younger generation has missed out on something.
I learned to cook as a child, as did my husband. We've always cooked at home and taught our kids how too. But I can't tell you how many of my children's friends have come over for dinner and were clueless as to how to cook anything.
I've always been the kind of cook that welcomes helpers. And my kids know how to measure cups and tablespoons and all that. When I would ask their friends to help and measure out something, they would have to be taught first. These weren't little kids, these were teenagers!
