The true shape of the earth is that of an "oblate spheroid" i.e.it is a sphere that is slightly flattened at the poles and distended at the equator. The difference between the equatorial and polar diameters is approximately 43 Kms.Because of this, the weight of a body increases as you go from equator to poles.Anybody that spins in our universe will have this type of shape only.

Observation from astronauts and satelites indicate that the Earth is a beautifull Globe(Sphere with some irigularities ).In other words it is nat flat . Its a nice round gigantic ball. Once people did believe that the Earth was flat ;however, today cosmologists believe that it is the Universe that is flat.

Its called an "oblate spheroid" - picture a basketball that has a small weight on top (its just a tiny bit squished from a perfect sphere) - there is a bit of a bulge at the equator.

It is an ovoid, oval in cross section. That is because it is a somewhat squashed sphere, since the basically spherical earth bulges at the equator, just like some people.

The circumference of the earth around the poles is less than it is for the equator. The reason for this is the rotation of the earth around it's axis.
