I cut it down when it starts to look bad and that just depends on the weather. It is nice to leave it as long as possible so the birds can enjoy the seeds. It will grow back from the roots and also will grow from the seeds the birds don't get.

Beebalm is almost impossible to kill and it is very invasive. It grows from both seeds and roots. I have it and don't do anything and it is bigger every year.

beebalm grows from the roots.leave the stalks till next spring .dried stalks act as mulch.in early spring subdivide the new growth after you clean up the dead stalks.
