I thought the book was great! A disturbing story line, but it was a very good read, and I think the writer Vladimir Nabokov, is brilliant! I actually started to feel sorry for him! You feel so sad knowing that he loves Lolita so much, even though he corrupted her and ruined her childhood! It evokes so many emotions and makes you feel things you wouldn't think you could feel! In my case anyway.

What did ya'll think of the book?

I thought Lolita was a masterpiece. True, the thought of Humbert's pedophia is extremely disturbing by American (and most of the world's) moral values, but it is made to sound... "Beautiful". It's hard to love him, but the writing keeps you away from the truth, I suppose.
With the french, being as I am not fluent, it was hard to read at some points. One would think it isn't completely necessary, but it does shed a little more light.

This book was a required reading in school a long time ago-
You must be in high school or freshman in college or university.

All I remember about Lolita was the teacher saying that the movie was considered to be controversial. When a group of us finally watched the movie we all thought it was a DOM (dirty old man movie., So ok it was not particularly memorable when read with 10-15 other books to compare with it, and that was only portion of one subject -English 1.

I loved it too, not only because of the language- I mean, it is so beautifully written, full of style, and the author also wants us to remark he is not a native speaker but someone who CHOOSES English- but also because of the strange and disturbing mélange of human emphathy for the characters ( Humbert and his wretched love, Lolita, the lonely kid, her mother, etc) and bitter irony AGAINST them. there is also an important moral message- at least in my opinion- because the story shows that corrupt love can never be reciprocated and ruins lives, but also that corrupt people can easily have their way in a world where people are too egoistic to protect more vulnerable ones ( Lolita and her mother)
