In pirates of the carribean, jack sparrow saw the seas as freedom. Many sailors do that, but that was before all the seas were charted, and there was nowhere to hide. Early americans saw the frontier as freedom, but then the US goverment caught up once it was all settled...People in the early 1900s saw the skies as freedom, but after ww1 and ww2 and cold war missle development, no matter where you are in the sky, they can find you. Physicists and those guys see space as freedom, an infinately large place, the final frontier, "Set full sail" "To the skys" "Warp engage"
Where do you expect to find freedom? My freedom is in the skies and forests. I think we all know why, for peace.

Freedom is not a place or thing; it is a state of mind associated with certain places or things... So regardless of the environment or situation you find yourself in, only you can direct your mind, and so therefore, only you can choose what your freedom is and thus make peace with yourself...

Freedom "from" the world (society, government, technology, people)?
Well that's easy, you just need to do allot of walking.
Although man has colonized all the continents, he only covers a small percentage of the land.
Even though it seems like there are no places on earth were man hasn't placed foot, there are parts out there that are absolutely absent of humans. Even in the united states there are places where people have not set foot on for centuries.
Its only a matter of how far you are willing to walk (I say walking, because these remote places will be absent of roads).
Of course, this type of freedom is undesirable to most people. People tend to stay within relative distance of each other.

The only freedom left in this world, is inside my mind.
I can still think what I want...
Nowdays, here in america, more and more laws are being passed against what can be said/ done.. wire tapping, illegal searches (that are not illegeal anymore) censorship in news/media/etc..
even here in yahoo answers, questions being pulled... same with youtube, etc.
searches being limited by corporations, taking away the freedom of the information the internet should of been providing...
There are no more freedoms in america, other than the voices floating around my head... freedom in solitiude.. is all there is left..

Freedom for me is doing anything i could do without people around. It is as if i have the feeling owning the world, my world indeed. There is no specific place so long as i am at peace in solitude.

Truth is beauty and beauty is truth. That is all there is to know in the world.
Seek truth, practice love and relish everything in the world that is beautiful. Then you will understand enlightenment, and you will be free.
When you are walking through the forests and view the sky over your head, you are experiencing beauty. You are experiencing truth. You glimpse perfection and harmony in nature. When you understand yourself as a part of that perfection, then you will understand.

Not even in a coma can we find freedom from the world .
We are fatally attached to the world.
The best freedom we can achieve is in our own hearts and minds.

Your answer is simply put: You will find temporary freedom from the world where you find peace.
*I* find it in mindless computer gaming or reading a good book.
And as everyone's answer will prove different, it will show that different people have different ways of finding that most elusive of things, Peace.
