The nation as a whole is more conservative than it is liberal and it seems that the leading candidates are very liberal. If the party wants to win the election, then they should back a candidate that is more conservative. I understand that most of the media supports those liberal candidates that they like to push down are throats, but you would think that the party would realize it needs to become more conservative. What are your thoughts?

i am an independent who often votes democratic. at this point in the race Dem's are showing off their most liberal aspects to win the bid for president from their base. just GOP are showing off their conservative side to win the bid from their base. as soon as there is just 1 Dem and 1 GOP candidate; you will see the candidates move towards the middle to try and get the independent votes they need.

my insight on Dem strategy
the war is their main strength and weakness
the progress report on the war showed military objective are being met but the political side is lacking

the good news weakens the main message of running Dem's

as to your mention of the media i do admit fox news is the only conservative news organization on TV. but what is more interesting the first viable black and woman candidates running against each other in the primaries or a few white males running against each other in the primaries? wait till next spring the news coverage will even out.

so my answer is just wait

If America wants conservatives, how does one explain the whipping the Repubs took in '06?

Poll after poll shows that Americans are not pleased with the present course of the nation...a course plotted by the right wingnuts that currently control the Republican party.

I think that the American people will vote for the party that represents honesty and change. The Republican party by any measure certainly cannot claim to be honest or to want to change course;e.g., Bush's bull-headed Surge.

As for the "liberal" media, that is a fairy tale propagated by right wing talk jocks such as Rush Limpbough and Sean Insanity. The fact is that the media is owned by wealthy conservatives who are the exact opposite of progressive.

Gee, I don't think so. Look where the conservative agenda got us?? Everyone is yanking out their hair over non-issues like same-sex marriage while our guys are suffering and dying daily in Iraq for a war which was started to either vindicate or show-up Daddy, and the Taliban has re-taken Afganistan, and Osama is still out there???. Hasn't your yellow ribbon faded enough by now for you to realize this war should have been stopped a long time ago? If anything, the conservatives in power have driven me further to the left, much further. I'm not saying the Dems are perfect, by any stretch, but enough is enough. When are you going to realize that the Conservatives in power don't give a rat's a__ about you or any other American any further than they can get more of the taxes which have come out of our paychecks.By the way, where do you get your statistics that the nation is more conservative? Haven't you been paying attention to the polls?

Statistically speaking, if the elections have been held immediately Obama would maximum probably win. McCain were making progression in the polls till the Democratic convention. many of the main vocal critics suggested that it became into staged and the speeches have been study. The grievance went often unheard; the polls extra effective favoring Obama. the following day McCain launched his working mate, whilst grievance got here for and against her, voters have been extra unsure yet leaning Obama nonetheless yet by using a smaller margin (some declare, a statistical ineffective warmth). Wait till the Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates. those are many of the final variables which will influence the race for the Presidency.

You are very right. The Democrats always overestimate the liberal sentiment among the populace. The only way they have won in the past forty years is by putting a centrist candidate out there... Carter, Clinton... that they can sell to the mainstream. Last true liberal I can think of was Roosevelt. Liberals the voters have rejected: Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry

Well I think you make a good point but you have to be specific on what you mean by conservative... For example I'm liberal on everything except taxes, I strongly believe we should make taxes record low right now, which is something your more likely to hear from a conservative than a liberal.

Why should the Dimmocrats become Conservative? The Repubicans have rejected Conservatism. They are in the grasps of the Neo-Cons: more undeclared, no-win wars, creating a Nazi state (to protect us from terrorism), undefended borders, runaway spending, loss of good jobs to China, and the North American Union.

The only Conservative on the horizon is Ron Paul.

my thoughts are: what are you basing your observations on? gut feelings? the 100 people you personally know out of 300 million?

as far as I can tell, the nation overall is about half and half... Bush BARELY won both times by less than 3 percent each time... that's not exactly a mandate...

or do you think that a bunch of conservatives voted for Gore and Kerry both?

I think for many it's about coming to the center not to really either side... and I think the dems are doing a better job of that right now... personally...

I think that BOTH parties would do well to be a little more moderate/centrist. That said? If the Democratic party becomes more conservative, wouldn't they start sounding like the Republican party?

I think the Democratic party is fading away. Their only hope to prolong their survival is to cater to the few left wing zealots left. But your right, our nation as a whole is becoming more and more Christian conservative everyday. This is the core of the GOP.
