b) Snape gave Trelawney's prophecy to Voldemort.
c) Snape's friends, Avery and Mulciber, vouched for him.

It's not really explained why he was a Death Eater. In "Deathly Hallows" we learn that he was hanging out with other Slytherins who dreamed of becoming Death Eaters when they left school. We also learn he didn't care for his muggle father, something he had in common with Voldemort. It wasn't until after Harry was born in 1980 that he started spying on Voldemort and the Death Eaters for Dumbledore.

Really, it's most likely anyone (wizard or witch that is) who followed Voldemort, was at least a half-blood, and hated muggles and muggle-borns, was able to become a Death Eater.

Yea, in the book only the true "muggleborns" were treated as second class citizens. So probably even though being half blood was preferable to the "death eaters," they were still given rights and that is why Snape was not persecuted so.

No, what she wants to know is why Voldemort allowed him to join the death eaters, even though he was a spy, he was still a death eater.

Because, well he dispised Muggles and Muggle borns. (Remember calling Lily mudblood...) All his friends were convinced that he was totally turned against everyone but the Death Eaters and Voldemort. Plus he was totally interested in Dark Arts. We know he was totally living in remorse for his previous beliefs, for he loved Lily. (Remeber him scouling at Phineas Negullus)

Snape wasn't a 'really' a death eater he was on Dumbledores side, and was only a death eater to spy for Dumbledore, he was trying to protect Harry for his mother, Lily all along.Reread the end of Deathy Hallows!

He wasn't really a death eater, he was doing everything he did for Dumbledore and Harry. (Not so much Harry)
