So it doesn't get snapped or ruined or wilted.

Are you shipping a plant or cut roses.
Well, you can't ship cut roses because they will wilt before they get there. You will need to order them and have them shipped. If you are shipping a plant then find a box that it will fit in rather snugly. Make sure the soil of contains a large amount of perlite or vermiculite for moisture retention. Wrap the rose pot and all in paper and place in the box and back fill with paper for stability so the rose does not get knocked around. Also, make sure you mark the box which side is up and leave instructions not to tip.
This is how the roses I order are shipped to me.

Here is an easier option given that you have not purchased the rose yet. Go to Heirloom roses, order the rose, and have them ship the rose for you. You can do this through David Austin roses as well.

Easy, call someone like 1-800-flowers, they excel in just this sort of thing. Or, maybe a cheaper alternative is to call a flower shop in the town she lives and have them deliver it. Don't send it from where you are, as romantic as that is, the rose will never make it as you predicted.

Use a flower delivery service. They guarantee that the flower will arrive in good condition. UPS and FEDEX have always done great jobs with packing and sending packages, but it will be expensive for getting a live rose sent all that way in good condition.

call interflora in your country. Now, if not available where you are or do not deliver where she is, try DHL. Get special packaging they can advice. They have incredible delivery deadline, for stuff like live that need to be maintained at cool temperature. expensive though. nice thought. if you want to try otherwise, wrap the stem of the rose in kitchen paper soaked in water, then in aluminium foil. Put in wood case like for a good wine, wrap and send express. Hope that gives you good ideas.

Call a florist that knows about shipping flowers. They will send one to her from a local branch. That's what my brother did for our grandfather's funeral, when he couldn't come.
