Desktop is more 'future proof' it can be upgraded
Desktops have bigger disks and tend to have more memory and capabilities for playing games (although not so much now).
Laptops are preferred for internet browsing emails and business applications - they are more expensive and do not upgrade easily (if at all in some cases).
So it depends what you need your computer for. If you do not intend to play games or do any video editing then Laptops are the most convenient solution.

Laptops are so prolematic. If the mouse goes, what do you do, ditch the whole thing. I can replace my monitor with any old. They wonder about actually using it on your lap for radiation. I probably wouldn't buy one new, they tend to have problems. Maybe he new ones are better, but look at all the questions on here about laptops and see how the desks have less things going wrong that are critical.

laptops are finally coming down in price because flat screens are now so much cheaper. Desktops still give you more power per dollar, but the gap is closing. If portability is really important to you, the laptop might be a better buy.
