My male Betta fish used to be a navy blue color, now its a faded blue. It's also not eating or swimming. It's just sticking his head in the corner of the fish tank. What do I do?

When was the last time you did a water change or tested the water for pH and ammonia? I would also suggest turning off all the lights and shining a flashlight on him. If you see gold flecks covering his body, he has velvet.
For any further questions, please direct yourself to www.ultimatebettas.com it is an awesome forum for bettas, and you can learn anything you want to know.

Sounds like you have a water problem.
Have you made sure:
To do a water change every two or three days
To make sure to use de-chlorination drops in the water-even if you have a water filter.
Filters remove sediment, not chemicals.
To make sure that the new water is the same temperature as the old water was?
To pour old water into a glass measuring cup & put Betta in while doing water change.
Also, don't worry about not eating, just wait a day or two & try again.
One of the biggest problems with fish is overfeeding.
Are you keeping him where it's not direct sunlight?
Is his bowl glass, and is it at least 7" to 10" wide & high?
Bettas like live food once in awhile- you can get bloodworms for about a nickel...you'll get way too many but keep them in the 'fridge and don't use dead ones.
Bettas eat them as they fall, so just do one at a time.
You may have to do more frequent water change as bloodworms get all in the gravel.
Bettas should live 2-3 years, mine lived 6 years which is really pretty amazing. He moved with us three times!!
Nothing's contaminating the top of his water?
Does he have a bit of plastic grass that he can rest in if he wants?
You don't need filtration, just frequent water changes.
Hope this helps.

Mine is also changing from a bright blue to dark blue color, mainly on the head. I've recently purchased a 5 gallon tank for him, complete with filtration. His only companion is a Marimo ball. He is eating fine and seems to prefer one dark corner of the tank but comes out to eat and check things out. He's almost 2 years old, but I heard they live generally between 2-5 years and their color fades as they age, just like we begin to gray. Hope this helps!

These are the classical symptoms of a Stressed and Bored Betta. Make sure the water is between 75 and 80 Fahrenheit and that the tank is over 1 Gallon. Anything else and your fish'll be cramped and cold. Read this article (http://www.fish-care.net/bettafishcare.shtml), and get the free email course, it inspired me to take proper care of my fish because it told me how bettas live in the wild and how I can mimic that with my tank and feeding.
Good luck!
