Are Americans hypocrites? I don't think so. I do not know if she is the only woman to run to be president, but I know she will not be the last. One day there will be a woman president and maybe a black woman president. It is not whether the president is a woman, black, a black woman or gay or even anything else about the person. Do they have the leadership qualities needed have they the experience needed. I do not think Hillary has, but then I did not think Maggie had either. Maggie had said the year before she did not have the experience needed and in a year she had, please.
I am sure if you look into it there are other countries that do not and have not had a woman president. Are they Hypocrites too?
All candidates should be viewed on their leadership qualities and experience and I do not think a bios press can stop that unless you think the public are stupid and are lead like bulls with rings in their noses.
Why are Americans as oppressive as the countries they try to "free"? Aren’t all countries oppressive to some extent? Do you base that on the fact that they have not had a women president? Get real, when the right woman comes along the American public will vote her into office no matter what.

Politicians are supposed to represent the people. Considering that more than half the people are women, shouldn't the make up of the body politic reflect that?
Seems to me that if the congress can legislate that certain segments of society be equally representative of the genders, so should they. They should require that each party have X amount of each gender in their candidate pool.
Women in politics have two main obstacles to over come.
One: Not enough of them choose that life.
Two: The vast majority are democrats and have to carry all that liberal baggage.
My opinion. They should all be women. I don't like the idea that the best man never wins, but the best looking man does.
I would prefer the best looking woman.
But hey, that's just me.
In the mean time; In this country, women enjoy more rights than anywhere else. They are gaining ground in politics and will continue to do so.

Women are free to run and have. Shirley Chisholm (an African American woman) ran a good campaign for her party's nomination many many years ago. So far, they just haven't been able to win.
Condoleeza Rice is a very powerful woman. We've also had female supreme court justices. Many would argue that being a justice on the Supreme Court is a more powerful postition than the President, although less in the public eye.
Other women who have run for their party's nomination and lost:
1952 - Eleanor Roosevelt (Dem) 2,236
1964 - Margaret Chase Smith (Rep) 227,007
Fay T Carpenter Swain (Dem) 7,140
1972 - Shirley Chisholm (Dem) 430,703
Patsy T Mink (Dem) 8,286
1976 - Ellen McCormack (Dem) 238,027
Gertrude Donahey (Dem) 43,661
H R H Fifi Taft Rockefeller (Dem) 2,305
1988 - Jennifer A Wesner (Dem) 7,546
Mary Jane Rachner (Rep) 2,479
Florenzo DiDonato(?) (Dem) 2,055
1992 - Tennie B Rogers (Rep) 4,180
Isabell Masters (Rep) 3,133
1996 - Elvena Lloyd-McDuffie (Dem) 92,324
Heather Anne Harder (Dem) 29,147
Susan Ducey (Rep) 1,783
Isabell Masters (Rep) 1,052
2000 - Heather Anne Harder (Dem)1,550

For one, Americans do not "oppress" anybody. This sounds like left wing propoganda. If you want to see oppression then go to Iran or anywhere else with Muslim law. You ought to get on your knees and thank God you live in America. As for Hillary, I have no problem with a woman being president. I have a problem with a CRAZY power hungry FAKE woman being president. She came down south and suddenly had an accent, then she suddenly sounded black when she went to New Orleans. Anybody that believes her nonsense should be shipped off to country led by her and then you would see how insane she is. www.myspace.com/stophernow
i dont look for this to be your best answer. also nothing personal I just REALLY dont like her.

All these people that are saying, I'd vote for a woman, but not Hillary, because she's ugly (?), or fat (?) or I don't agree with her political agenda (as if they even know what it is) are not voters, just immature & uninformed people (kids) that are not really researching or listening to the candidates, only to each other, & repeating the same diatribe. Don't pay attention to them, pay attention to what's really going on in the political circles & the world.

I think most people, Americans or not, want someone as a leader who exhibits characteristics traditionally dominant in the male of the species. The gender of that person is not really as important (except to activists of either side).
If people want a caretaker, then they'll look for someone who exhibits characteristics traditionally dominant in the female of the species. Again, gender is not that important.

As Michael Savage said.... Electing Hillary will set the womens movement back 50 years.
As far as other women? Bring the right one and Ill vote for her. Margret Thatcher was a great leader. Hillary is no Thatcher.

There is not a problem with having a woman president but I just do not think that Hillary is the best candidate. It has nothing to do with if she is a woman.

It has nothing to do with the fact that Hillary is a woman....It's just that many do not agree with her political agenda....just as some people do not agree with the other male candidates. What are you aiming at?
