go buy or rent the movie "Tora,Tora, Tora" it is a fantastically accurate movie about the attack. It is interesting to note that a Japanese mini submarine was sank outside Pearl the morning of the attack, but wasn't "confirmed until it's discovery in recent years. This is shown in this movie.

Also, on "google earth" you can see where, (for the US) WWII began and ended, by going to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Thee USS Arizona can be seen in the shallow water of the harbor, the USS Missouri is docked as a museum not for from it.

Pearl harbor was the attack, by Japanese forces, on the American navy, based at Hawa'ii. The Japanese hoped to sink American carriers to prevent them having mobile airfields, in order to expand her empire. However, all carriers were out that day, meaning that the Japanese missed them. However, the Japanese instead hit the American battleships, sinking some, including the USS Arizona. Pearl Harbor was the reason America FINALLY (late) entered WW2, as Hitler, previously allied with Japan, declared war on the USA. Britian, Australia and Canada later declared war on Japan, ensuring the US now entered the war. Pearl Harbor claimed the lives of around 3000 sailors, on a bright sunday morning on December 7th 1941. While I, as an Englishman, have the utmost pity and sorrow for the men that died, perspective must be kept on the event, as, while 3000 men at once is many, 2 million Germans and Russians in one battle is also large, but ask any Westerner to relate the battle of stalingrad, kursk or prague and theyll guess. Ask them to relate pearl harbor, theyll tell you everything I have....look up the eastern front as well as the west, its far more interesting and shocking.

The surprise was complete. The attacking planes came in two waves; the first hit its target at 7:53 AM, the second at 8:55. By 9:55 it was all over. By 1:00 PM the carriers that launched the planes from 274 miles off the coast of Oahu were heading back to Japan.

I suggest a book called "Day Of Infamy" by Walter Lord.

Also, the movie "Tora, Tora, Tora" is pretty accurate.
