I don't "use" humour at all, it's just always there. I see humour in everything, & when I laugh about it, everyone else seems to see it, too. It's great to make people laugh, especially if they're getting gloomy about something over which they have no control, or starting to show hostility in a debate. There's so much comedy in the way people get "carried away." (Me, too, & I also laugh at myself.)

Yes, I guess I do. I have always felt that I have a bit of an inferior complex and when I am uncomfortable, I usually make a funny comment or try to get other people to smile. I don't exactly know why it is that I do this but I have done it most of my life and it gets me by when I am feeling that I need to do something to change the subject or focus the attention on something else. Have a nice day, too!

Yeah. I use a mocking or sarcastic type of humor to keep my inside secret. People spend the entire conversation trying to defend themselves from my remarks, which gives them no time to see who I am on the inside.
When I'm around a person who doesn't take my humor that well, I get so horribly uncomfortable. My true self - the one that doesn't like attention and serious talks - becomes visible to people. So I just walk away.

Yes, in my life of giving talks in seminars, I have encountered many kind of questions during questioning time. Some questions were sincere and some were hostile. To the latter, most of the times I had to use humor as a defense mechanism to dissolved the tensed atmosphere. As I still could remembered in one of my recent talk, one guy rushed to the front after I finished the talk and insisted to ask questions. But in fact he wanted to express the different view of speech. He kept talking for 5 minutes without rest. When he finally stopped, I asked him: "Could you please repeat your question one more time?" Audience laughed and he left the hall quietly.

Absolutely. In my line of work if you don't have a sense of humor you won't last long, and when tension is at it's highest it is much better to laugh at yourself as well as others than to gripe at each other

Yep....it's one of those things, if I don't laugh at my problems, they can get overwhelming and ruin my day (get me really angry or sad) by way of interfering with my motivation and composure (self-control, that is).
I laugh to keep from crying. Not that crying works anymore because I've had allergies all my life, so my tear glands barely work. Perpetual dry eyes rather sucks that way. But I digress, I laugh to keep from crying, screaming and/or hitting people when they do terrible and stupid things, because well....
I'm 40 these days. Outbursts like that would get me kicked out of places, and/or thrown in jail, and/or sent to a locked-down psych ward. None of these things would be helpful or healthy for me in the long run, so yeah.....
I laugh at things to keep a lid on my darker, nastier options, the ones I really cannot *afford* to cut loose on and use.
I hope this helps. ^_^ Good question!

Yes! All the time at work. I am naturally sort of a clown. :)
But there at this person that if I don't act like everything is hunky dory they like chew me out. So I make up jokes and try to be funny even when I don't feel like it. I'm tried of doing it to keep out of trouble, I much prefer being funny just because I'm happy.

When I get uncomfortable. I make jokes or I make fun of myself. I always make myself the butt of jokes when I know I am around people who do not like me. That way there is a less of a chance of them hurting me.

I defuse angry situations among friends (especially in a sports game where we need to be cohesive) with laughter.
I know a person who uses it to degrade himself. He reckons its better to make a joke about himself and laugh with people rather than be the joke and be laughed at.

I probably do; yes.
What I notice I like to do is to defuse sticky situations or an argument using a funny comment sometimes.
