My son just had his baptism a couple of weeks ago and it was in a hall with the tables, linens...
He had received a lot of really nice gifts, this might help you out. His godparents bought him a beautiful white gold and yellow gold necklace with a cross, relatives and friends gave frames that are engraved, baptism certificate holder engraved, religious jewellery, engraved jewellery box, children's first bible, and photo albums.
I hope this helps you with ideas for your godchild. I know that in my family the tradition is to buy everything that the child needs for that day from the outfit, jewellery, even to the diapers.
Good luck.

Write him a personal note to be put away until he is 18 years old. Tell him how much it means that he is a part of this world and is in your life. Tell him what hopes and dreams you have for him and write a little bit about the world and what is taking place at this time. You could include in the envelope a set of coins from his birth year. (You could also buy a Savings Bond and put it with the rest or get a Bible or religious article that he could use as he gets old enough to understand it.)
Your having been chosen to be the Godmother is something very significant. Your are respected and loved and they are putting their most important possession in your hands to help and guide him in his life. What a beautiful and meaningful gesture!
What your gift costs has no meaning; it could be the smallest item with the most value because of the emotional meaning or the love that you put into what you give. To me, that letter would have such a special value because it would tell the child about the bond that you want to create with him throughout his life and it will tell him that his birth is a miracle and a very special gift to you as well as to the rest of the family. Telling him what a priviledge and honor it is to be chosen to help him throughout his life will be a gift that keeps on giving.
Congratulations to all of you! Enjoy your day and carry that priviledge with pride!!

The most popular gift is savings bonds to help with college costs. You would get a nice silver baby cup with his name and birthdate on them, a silver frame with the same thing to put a pic of you and your nephew in. Put a personal engraving on it.

i have bought all my nieces and nephews dream catchers to hang in the nursery. i am not a religious person but a spiritual one. i usually get one with colors appropriate to the baby, i cut copy paste the "legend" onto pretty paper and frame it also. They have been a BIG HIT in our family and my 2 new GREAT nephews just got theirs too. (their moms got them from me WAYY back when and were secretly waiting for the new ones). it has turned into a tradition in our family.

Get a cross (ceramic-type) that will coordinate with his nursery. My four oldest all have theirs (from various Godparents) still hanging over their beds.
Don't go overboard as you have many more birthdays and holidays to send a gift.

I just had my son Baptised and he received a baby Rosary, a Children's Bible and a very cute Cross with a poem on it to hang in his room. Oh and he also received a pewter frame with his name, date and name of church engraved on it. Hope this helps!
